JANUARY 9th 2012 MEETING

Program: As we discussed at the last meeting, the charity committee will be run a little differently this year. Carol and Gail will bring all the current charity supplies to the meeting, and we will be cutting as much as possible into kits. Bring: scissors, rotary cutter supplies, etc. to help with the kit preparation. We will try to distribute all the prepared kits so that members can store unfinished kits at home, sew, quilt and deliver finished quilts to be stored until distribution at the end of the year.

Charity: In addition to the home-made quilts, we will still be participating in: dressing teddy bears (new bears probably available in March), making pillowcases (see Jane L.), and preemie quilts (see Claire P.).

REMEMBER TO BRING:
Door prize (if you signed up for one)
Block of the month - your chance to win a bunch of blocks for your next quilt!
Refreshments - we like our snacks
Any finished teddy bear clothing - or hold until we have more bears
Library books - donations of recent quilting books are always welcome
Charity items - any finished quilts
Show and tell - we alway like to be inspired by the work of others!

OCTOBER 9th MEETING PROGRAM NOTES

By popular request, our program this month will be a mini-workshop. Our project will be a basic quilted cosmetic bag.

BRING FOR THE WORKSHOP:
One fat quarter (will make one cosmetic bag) - or two fat quarters if you want contrasting lining.
Two 8"x10" pieces of batting (whatever you have leftover - thin poly or cotton)
Thread to match your fabrics
Sewing machine or rotary cutting materials (we will share)

This is not a very complicated project. The workshop will be a demo on how to make a basic quilted cosmetic bag / pencil case, along with a trunk show of more complicated projects you can tackle at home.

FEBRUARY 14th MEETING

Thank you to our January speaker, Linda J. Hahn, for a great presentation on Careers in Quilting. We learned a lot about pattern designing and the book-writing process. Check out her book/pattern website http://www.froghollowdesigns.com/ and her longarm website http://www.twocountryquilters.com/. It was great to see the quilts from her new book NEW YORK BEAUTY SIMPLIFIED. Perhaps we can have her back to do a New York Beauty workshop for us in the near future.

THE FEBRUARY PROGRAM will be our semi-annual Charity Sewing Night. Instead of block/top construction, this year we will concentrate on making some of the completed quilt tops into finished quilts. If you didn't sign up for a "team", plan to bring your sewing machine and join a team on the spot!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW OFFICERS, and thank you to all those who "stepped up to the plate" so we could continue the guild for another year.

For the next meeting, please remember:

BLOCK OF THE MONTH - Try to make at least one block - maybe this will be your month to win...

CHARITY - if you have taken home any charity quilts to complete, please bring them in, also any blocks or fabric donations.  Of course, preemie quilts (give to Claire) and pillowcases (Jane) are always welcome and are distributed to charities all year long.

TEDDY BEAR CLOTHES - More teddy bears should be available in March or April, but bring the clothes in the meantime and we'll dress them when they arrive! Keep knitting those miniature sweaters and making skirts/pants to go along with them!

NON-PERISHABLE FOOD DONATIONS - Any items donated will go to Samaritan Center as usual. Winter is a difficult time of year, as donations generally fall off after the holidays. Need is greater than ever before this year.

FAT QUARTER SWAP - Don't forget to bring your Fat Quarter for the swap. Participation was very low last year - let's try to remember from now on. This month's color is: RED. For the full list of Fat Quarter Colors for the year, click here.

DOOR PRIZES - If you signed up for door prizes, don't forget to bring them. $10 value, NEW items only, and please put your name on the wrapping.
